An opportunity to earn and learn!

Council Trainee, Apprenticeships and Cadet programs give opportunities to gain valuable on-the-job experience while undertaking relevant studies.

Trainees, Apprentices, and Cadets undertake their courses part-time while employed full-time (on a temporary fixed term contract for the period of their Employment Training Program). Time is provided during work hours to study and complete assessments. As part of the employment offer, Council pays 100% of course fees and costs associated with studies, including textbooks.

Examples of these positions at Yass Valley Council may include:

  • Trainee Finance Officer
  • Trainee Development Planner
  • Trainee Building Certifier
  • Trainee Community and Economic Development
  • Apprentice Heavy Plant Mechanic
  • Apprentice Horticulturalist
  • Cadet Engineer

These positions are typically for a temporary fixed term ranging from 2-6 years. This often depends on the length of study required for a particular qualification.

Trainee, Apprenticeship, and Cadet positions allow applicants to join in entry level positions and often do not require former professional or educational experience. If you are interested in applying for a trainee, apprenticeship or cadet position, refer to the position description attached to the job advertisement for more information.
