Mayor Jasmin Jones has served on the Council since 2012 and has been a strong advocate for our community around issues such as health, education, and much needed local infrastructure across local, state, and federal portfolios.

Her background as a journalist and small business owner has given her the skills and experience to be an effective listener and communicator for the people of Yass Valley to all levels of government and regional development organisations.

With her husband Michael, Jasmin is raising a family in Yass, and working professionally as the Editor-In-Chief of tourism magazine This Week In Canberra, promoting the greater region including Yass Valley; helping shape her vision to make Yass Valley an even better place to live and work from.

Jasmin’s focus this term will be to bring Council into a financially stronger and more sustainable position, key infrastructure projects already funded are delivered and ensuring a fresh Community Strategic Plan is developed that reflects the needs and shared vision of our community. Rural roads maintenance programs are clearly communicated and the care and upgrade of our village and town infrastructure is guided through community-engaged master planning and grant applications.

Jasmin has already commenced advocacy to other levels of government with a focus on the Water Treatment Plant Upgrade, duplication of the federal Barton Highway Stage 2, delivery of Yass Valleys’ $4.7 M federally budgeted pre & postnatal Care Mother’s Hub and associated infrastructure and services through Southern NSW Local Health District.
