Councillor Fleur Flanery

Fleur Flanery is recognised for developing and delivering positive outcomes for the places she has worked including as an Executive in the ACT Government and environmental organisations such as Greening Australia and Land & Water Australia. Her ability to understand, plan and make connections provides multiple benefits for people and the community.  

Fleur has two degrees, one in Communication and the other in Landscape Architecture. She is a Board Member of the Yass Valley Aged Care and is Vice President of the Marchmont Reserve Trust. 

Fleur grew up on a in a farming community near Galong and now is the Director of a small business in Yass that organises events and international tours that focus on contemporary landscape design.

Prior to running her own business, Fleur held Executive level positions in the ACT Government as the Executive Director Planning Policy, Director, Place Management and Senior Manager Urban Treescapes. In these roles she was responsible for Strategic Planning including developing masterplans and scoping the review into the Territory Plan.

Fleur managed over 400 full time employees who delivered municipal services in Canberra including horticultural services for parks and sporting fields, shopping centre and toilet cleaning, maintenance for over 500 playgrounds, delivery of a strategic plan for the urban forest which included over1,000,000 trees in the urban estate. She was also instrumental in introducing legislation to improve use of open space and domestic animal management. 

Fleur was appointed as a member of the ACT Procurement Board providing advice on large and often complex procurement matters and was the Registrar of Domestic Animals and the Animal Welfare Authority.  

Fleur is a keen runner and has represented Australia twice in World Mountain Marathon Championships and won the Canberra Marathon. She continues to run around Yass most days of the week.
