Councillor David Carter moved to Yass Valley in 2020 and proudly became an Australian citizen in 2022 at Commonwealth Park.
Originally from New Zealand, David has an extensive legal background, having practiced as a barrister and solicitor in telecommunications and infrastructure regulation before transitioning to practice as a barrister sole. He is also a Chartered Accountant with CPA Australia.
David’s career has taken him across the globe, including working in Brazil and the United Kingdom, before returning to Australia in 2024. He now services as a Professor at the University of Canberra’s Business School, specialising in accounting, ethics, law, risk, and governance.
Passionate about community and personal interests, David enjoys cooking, gardening, DIY projects, and preserving produce. He is a member of the Hume Tennis Club and a golfing member at the Binalong Community Club. With a servant leadership approach, David is actively involved in palliative care, men’s mental health initiatives, and community consultation.
He lives in Yass and is committed to making a positive impact in the local community.
