2024 Spring School Holiday Program

Yass Valley Council has teamed up with local businesses to provide the community with a jam-packed school holiday program. This is the perfect opportunity to keep your kids busy, entertained and enjoying the wonderful spring weather we have been having!

Activities include a free bus trip to the National Zoo and Aquarium, craft activities, pottery and a movie, to name a few.

The program begins on Monday, 30 September and concludes on Friday, 11 October and spots must be booked via the Humanitix links.

School holidays don’t have to be boring! 


Tiny Terrariums

Using glassware, soil, a bit of charcoal, and selected plants, you can create your very own biome.

We will be designing, setting up and planting small terrariums. Then watch your mini world grow and change.

Participants will be provided with everything needed to set up their terrariums and sent home with a care card that has all the information on how to keep your little world thriving.

Since this event is a little fiddly, we do require that the participants be 8 years or older.

National Zoo and Aquarium 

Join us for an exciting day trip these school holidays! The bus will pick up at 10am from the Rossi Street bus stop, heading straight to the national Zoo and Aquarium. Get up close with amazing wildlife and marine creatures in an interactive and educational experience. After exploring the zoo, enjoy a provided lunch with your friends before we head back to Yass, arriving around 3.30pm 

A fun filled day for all.

Fire Station Visit and Lego

This activity will startat the library before a short walk to the fire station to meet the firefighters, see some cool gear and learn a little about what they do to keep us safe before heading back to the library for some firefighter-themed Lego.
Bring along a parent or responsible older sibling for supervision - we will be crossing roads and potentially dealing with heavy equipment.

Dinky Shrinks

Using shrinking sheets, a trusty air fryer, and textas, design and create a personal and durable plastic charms.

For jewellery, bags, keys, or anything you want. trace the provided designs, bring your own, or draw straight from the soul, either way you will have a one-of-a-kind charm made by you!

Each participant will have their own sheet of shrink plastic to make their charms and will have the capability to shrink them on the day for them to take home at once.

Parents must stay within the library for the duration of this event.

Horse Back Riding

Saddle up for a fun-filled morning of horseback riding these school holidays!

Perfect for beginners and experienced riders alike, this program offers a chance to explore the great outdoors on horseback. Screen Printing Workshop

Unleash your creativity at the Sutton Gallery these school holidays! In this fun, hands-on workshop, you'll design and print your own custom t-shirt. From sketching your ideas to bringing them to life, you'll explore colours, patterns, and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.

Pottery

In this workshop you will be learning some age-old skills working with clay and how to create and decorate objects that are personally meaningful to you.

We'll also work with some clay found around Yass/Ngunnawal land. This will be a cool, interesting, and good fun workshop for pondering teenagers in the Yass Valley.

Movie and Snack: IF

Camel Experience

Spend time these school holidays with camels, learning to ride, and discovering fascinating facts about these gentle giants. 

As part of the school program, participants will get hands-on experience, bonding with the camels through guided rides and activities. This fun and educational experience not only introduces students to the care and handling of camels but also fosters teamwork, confidence, and a sense of adventure in a unique outdoor setting.

Fishing

Join us for a fantastic day of fishing at Riverbank Park! 

Students will be provided with fishing gear which they can take home and keep. 

Spend a couple of hours casting your lines and enjoy the outdoors. With prizes to be won and lunch provided, it's the perfect way to spend a relaxing and fun day by the river. All equipment is free, and no experience is needed, just come along and enjoy the experience!

Kicking off at Riverbank Park at 10am, this is a great chance to reel is some fish, make new friends, and even win a prize! Don't miss out.

Grow Your Own Food

Ready to get your hands dirty?

Join us at the Yass Valley Library for a hands-on planting workshop.
