The cemeteries of Yass Valley Council are required by the NSW Government to have appropriate licencing and Management Plans in place.*
Council is undertaking a review of management procedures as part of the process. We are also developing Master Plans for all seven cemeteries at the same time.
This will benefit the community in delivering a clearer process for burials and interments. It will also result in a safer work environment for Council staff.
The master plans will help Council deliver cemeteries that best meet the needs of the community; this survey will help us better understand.
Council is also conducting community consultation on the Management Plan and Master Plans as follows:

* The Cemeteries and Crematoria Regulation 2022 introduced a scheme of licensing conditions for all providers of burials and interments. As part of the introduction of this scheme, Yass Valley Council is developing a new Management Plan for the six cemeteries it is licensed to operate.
As part of this process, Council will be moving to a standardised contract for all the cemeteries which will include a transparent pricing structure relevant for each cemetery and will outline customer service procedures. The new contract will also provide standards around monuments, memorials and mementos, and provide for applications/permits for these.
In addition, new regulations are being introduced around cemetery maintenance, religious and cultural principles as well as aboriginal cultural and spiritual principles, for which Council is seeking community input.
In conjunction with the Management Plan, Yass Valley Council is also developing Masterplans for the cemeteries, so Council is also seeking community input into the Masterplans.
